This was built this for a good friend of mine going back to my college days in Florida. This started with the GRÖNÖ lamp from Ikea; a frosted glass rectangular box with a single light source in the bottom. The lamp cantilevers off of a black painted wood base & is supported by a wood shade that is tied to the base with thin steel cables, allowing the lamp & shade to hover over the front of the base. The shade was made from wooden soap dishes that are slotted into the frame of a wooden bath caddy, both from Ikea.
